Chris Schijns (born 1984, Genk) has been with Adlex lawyers & mediators since 1 November 2014. He became a lawyer-partner on 1 January 2020. He focuses mainly on public and administrative law, with particular emphasis on public procurement, environmental and planning law, spatial planning, expropriation, environmental and energy law, local authorities and public-sector employment law.
Before joining Adlex, Chris practised as a lawyer at Monard-D’Hulst. He then worked as Legal Advisor PPP & Real Estate at AG Real Estate, where he gained extensive experience in real estate development, public-private partnerships (PPP) and public procurement. Among other projects, he was involved in the DBFM programme “Schools of Tomorrow”. His experience on both the public and private sides is a significant asset in his current practice.
In public procurement matters, Chris advises and assists both public authorities and companies with the preparation, award and performance of public contracts. His work includes complex tender procedures, selection and award issues, tender assessment, contract amendments, performance disputes and other legal questions that may arise during the execution of public contracts.
Chris also has extensive experience in environmental and planning law. He advises and represents clients in matters concerning environmental permits, spatial plans, enforcement, environmental and energy law, expropriation and other public-law issues.
Chris is also active as a mediator. In that role, he guides parties through negotiations and disputes and seeks solutions that are legally sound, but above all practical and sustainable.
In addition to his legal practice, Chris is active in education. He teaches Legal Practice at UCLL and contributes to training programmes on public procurement, including PXL-Next’s postgraduate programme for Public Procurement Buyers. He regularly publishes and speaks on topics within his areas of expertise.
Chris combines broad legal expertise with many years of practical experience on both the public and private sides. This gives him a strong understanding of the legal, commercial and administrative interests that converge in complex matters and enables him to provide targeted advice in legal proceedings, negotiations and disputes alike.
